MARCH 2026

As Agentic AI begins to redefine the enterprise, Matters.AI is setting the standard by becoming the first data security platform to prove its AI is governed, audited, and held to the world’s highest level of accountability.

When we started building Matters.AI, the problem we wanted to solve was simple but incredibly important: Security teams cannot protect what they cannot understand.

Enterprise data is now scattered across SaaS applications, cloud infrastructure, AI systems, and internal tools. Traditional security solutions still rely on static rules and alerts, while the environments they protect are becoming dynamic, autonomous, and increasingly AI-driven.

So, we built something different.

At Matters.AI, we are building what we call an Agentic AI Security Engineer for Data , a system that understands data context, monitors behavior, and proactively protects sensitive information across modern enterprise environments.

But we realized something critical: You can’t ask a security team to trust an autonomous system with their most sensitive data if that system is a ‘black box’. In an era where AI is both the greatest tool and a new attack surface, a ‘trust me’ approach is a security risk. We didn’t just want to build the most powerful AI; we wanted to build the most accountable one.

Because our platform itself is powered by AI, responsibility and governance are not optional for us, they are foundational.

That is why we are proud to share that Matters.AI is now ISO/IEC 42001 certified.

Why ISO 42001 Matters to Us

ISO/IEC 42001 is the first global standard specifically designed for AI management systems. While many security frameworks focus on protecting infrastructure, ISO 42001 focuses on something newer and equally critical: How organizations build, operate, and govern AI systems responsibly.

For us, this isn’t just a certificate; it’s a blueprint. This standard introduces structured practices around:

  • AI Risk Management: Proactively identifying how AI could fail or be misused.
  • Model Governance: Ensuring the AI operates within strict ethical and operational guardrails.
  • Accountability: Building automated systems that are auditable and reliable.
  • Transparency: Moving past the “black box” so teams understand how the AI makes decisions.

Think of this certification as the ultimate ‘background check’ for a new hire. Our Agentic AI Security Engineer doesn’t just follow a static script; it reasons, observes, and learns. By aligning with ISO 42001, we’ve ensured that this ‘digital colleague’ operates within a world-class governance framework, giving human teams the confidence to let AI take the lead on high-scale data protection.

In other words, it ensures that AI systems are not just powerful , but also trustworthy.

For us at Matters, this aligns directly with how we believe AI should be built.

Secure AI Starts with Responsible AI

The irony of modern cybersecurity is that AI is now both the problem and the solution. AI systems are increasingly accessing enterprise data, automating decisions, and interacting with critical workflows. This creates new attack surfaces and new governance challenges. At the same time, the scale of modern environments makes it impossible for humans alone to monitor everything.

This is where AI-driven security systems become essential.

But if AI is protecting sensitive enterprise data, organizations must be confident that the AI itself operates within strong governance controls. ISO 42001 provides that assurance.

A New Architecture for Data Security

Security teams today are overwhelmed by a “perfect storm”: fragmented visibility across hundreds of SaaS apps, complex cloud infrastructure, and AI tools interacting with sensitive data at machine speed.

The traditional architecture of manual monitoring and static rules is failing because it simply cannot keep up with the scale of modern data. The future requires a system that can observe, reason, and respond autonomously.

At Matters.AI, we’ve built that future. Our Agentic AI Security Engineer represents a shift in architecture, moving from reactive tools to an autonomous digital colleague that:

  • Understands Data Context: It knows why data is sensitive, not just where it sits.
  • Identifies Intent: It detects abnormal access patterns before they escalate into incidents.
  • Operates with Oversight: Because of our ISO 42001 framework, every autonomous action is governed by clear risk assessments and documented model management.

What This Means for the Matters.AI Customer

This architectural shift isn’t just about better technology; it’s about providing our customers with a level of trust that hasn’t existed in AI until now. For the organizations that rely on us, this means:

Responsible AI development

Our AI systems are developed with structured governance, documented risk assessments, and clear lifecycle management.

Greater transparency and accountability

Security teams using our platform can trust that the AI decisions supporting their protection mechanisms operate within defined controls.

Future-ready compliance

As regulations around AI governance continue to evolve globally, frameworks like ISO 42001 are becoming increasingly important for organizations building AI-native products. We believe that autonomy must be earned through radical transparency. This certification is our blueprint for a world where AI-native security isn’t just an experimental tool, but a governed, reliable pillar of your enterprise.

A Milestone, Not the Finish Line

Achieving ISO/IEC 42001 certification is a significant milestone for us, but it is not the ultimate destination. It represents our ongoing commitment to building AI systems that are not only powerful but also transparent, governed, and trustworthy. As AI continues to transform enterprise technology, we believe that companies that succeed will be those that treat responsible AI as a core design principle, not an afterthought.

At Matters.AI, we are proud to be building in that direction.
